Blind Channel, British Columbia East and West Thurlow Islands are part of the Discovery Islands, an archipelago between Vancouver Island and the mainland of British Columbia. The islands are situated 28 miles from Campbell River and north of Desolation Sound on the Inside Passage. Shoal Bay is located on the North Shore of East Thurlow Island and was in the 1890's a bustling community of over 5000 people working in British Columbia's in the mining and lumber industries.
Now with a year round population of just a handful of people, Shoal Bay is a remote wilderness destination with a government dock and small pub. Water taxi transportation from Campbell River to Shoal Bay on East Thurlow Island is approximately 1 hour and 10 minutes. Located on West Thurlow Island is Blind Channel Resort, a full service marina offering island accommodations as well as dining and outdoor activities. Forest trails with varying degrees of difficulty, maintained by Interfor, lead from the resort. One very popular route takes visitors up to a huge first growth Western Red Cedar.
