Frederick Arm


Orca whales cruising by. Located 35 miles northeast of Campbell River, Frederick Arm includes parts of the B.C. mainland and Discovery Islands as well as Vancouver Island.  The area lies at the northeastern end of the Vancouver Island Ranges and is characterized by fairly rugged topography with fault-line scarps and fault-controlled valleys accentuated by glaciations.

This area is popular with campers and kayakers venturing into the Estero Basin to explore. Back country skiing in the winter time is also accessible from the head of Frederick Arm . Orca whales often trap their dinner in Frederick Arm by herding salmon up the waterway creating a perfect viewing opportunity for whale watching.
